SONJO Solidarity Journey

SONJO Solidarity Journey #1: Developing Community-Based Shelters for Covid-19 Patients

The topic of discussion is Developing Community-Based Shelters for Covid-19 Patients: Sharing Experience from Bantul, Indonesia. The webinar aims to share experience on how to support the hospitals in handling COVID-19 patients by developing multilevel shelters and a dual referral system across hospitals and shelters. Indeed, many COVID-19 patients are asymptomatic, and they may not need to stay in a hospital. However, conducting self-isolation at home may not be implementable for the majority of households in rural areas. Developing multilevel shelters and implementing a dual referral system may be an alternative strategy to reduce the excess burden of the hospital. Representatives from 11 WHO Country Offices: Bangladesh, Bhutan, DPR Korea, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Timor-Leste are invited. This event took place on 20 May 2021. The webinar is a collaborative program between SONJO and the Department of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia.
